Does anyone know a different form of Vortisch? I have traced them back to Germany in 1850's, but have no idea what area. I did find out that the first names I was looking for were spelled differently in German. But I am not pulling up anything on Vortisch. I can not even find it on a surname web-page.

I have looked on Ancesrty, Rootweb, Morman website, google, Cindi's list, GenWeb, even e-mailed some Vortisch's I found online, and etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

  1. "Vortisch" is the same spelling as used in Germany now, so there does not seem to have been any change in that.

You say you have emailed some Vortisch's, have you tried emailing any German ones ? You never know, you might strike lucky, or at least discover whether or not Vortisch is a regional name, or more widely spread.

You might be able to form an idea about which parts of Germany the name was more common in, by looking up some references like this one.

    Friedrich Vortisch

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
