if you use spell check in Yahoo Answers in the Nascar section that it doesn't even recognize Nascar as being correctly spelled? You'd think if they have a Nascar section if would know how to spell Nascar.

That's because NASCAR is an acronym not a word.  It stands for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.  Just like NFL stands for National Football League.

I agree!  I was just thinking that as the spell check butchered the spelling of nascar.  It spells it Nazca (what the heck is a Nazca anyway?)

SPELL CHECK SHOULD RECOGNIZE NASCAR!!

--i did notice this. it only recognizes NAS then space--then

CAR. they say it's an acronym, but so is NAACP--or USSR--and

spellcheck is fine with that..

Umm, what the first guy said.  If you spell NFL, Nfl, then it won't be recognized the same way as if you spell NASCAR, Nascar.

It's because spellcheck is actually a dictionary program. Only words in the dictionary are recognized. There are many words that any spellcheck program doesn't recognize. Medical, psychological, and engineering/architectual terms just to mention a few. I did fall upon an intuitive spellcheck program though. It actually learns the spelling of words not in the basic program from the user. Down side is, it will learn  new mis-spellings as well. I'd give you the link but don't remember what it is. I didn't download it because it will learn to spell incorrectly.

yes you think they would correct the many glitches spell check has..even ok comes up as misspelled

instead of using the abbreviation, spell it out and spell check will be cool with that
