Ever since I added weight lifting to my exercise routine, my endurace has gone down. Is weight lifting bad?

While my legs do feel stronger when I run, my endurace has gone down hill. My heart rate is higher, and I can't last as long. I'm starting to wonder if weight lifting is bad for runners. What are your thoughts?

  1. lift 2-3 days a week. condition yourself for running 2-3 times a week.

it has nothing to do with you lifting that your endurance is going down. it just means your not conditioning enough because your putting to much focus on lifting.

  2. I do lifting and running, neither one interferes with the other maybe you are overtraining your leg muscles and making it harder to run on them for too long.  Don't do too much weight do a low number of sets and reps, heavy but not too heavy

  3. Chances are you're using all your energy lifting so when it comes down to your runs you're more tired. Lessen the amount your lifting and how often. Try swimming as another alternative that's another great muscle building tool

  4. How much are you lifting? and how often?  And are you cutting down on your running to get your weights in?  I am a firm beleiver in weight training for runners but like already mentioned you maybe getting wore out from your weight program and it is affecting your running.  Some thoughts, this may pass in time as your body adjust.  You might want to cut back on weights.  You might need to take a day off once a week, this will help your body rest and recover.  It all really depends on what your workout week looks like and then we can get a better idea whats going on.  Your welcome to contact me and I can try to help or post your workout here and everyone here can get a better idea and help you more.

    Good Luck

  5. Lifting weights actually helps your running.

You need some help on designing your program so that you get the best results from your efforts.

You should lift 2 or 3 days per week.

Never lift on consecutive days, you need recovery days.

  6. if your lifting to much it is but other wise no
