  1. I don't have colitis - but I do work in a GI center. We do the colonoscopy and all that good stuff. Today we had a patient who had been diagnosed with (horrible) colitis 6 months ago. The patient took their meds and watched their diet and today when we did the follow up, the colon looked GREAT. The patients life has really improved. Like anything it all takes time and getting the right mixture of meds. Talk to your doctor about a colitis support group, they may know of some in your area - or maybe you can start one.  There are also online support groups.

    Good luck

  2. there are tons of Natural alternatives , for Colitits , i had it about 20 years ago , if your old enoughf and its acting up drink a beer it will calm it down, eat yougurt , drink chamomole tea , and simple diet changes will clear it up , stay away from broccoli , eat plain rice the sticky rice from sushi places are great , plain pasta is also good , you will get over it just lean what upsets it and what calms it down

  3. Hi I suffer with crohn's and would recommending Crohns Zone.  It is a brilliant web site for people with crohns and colitis who are all suffering the same as you.  It has forums and a live web chat. Has really helped me.  x*x

  4. I was fortunate enough to have mine caught early and treated aggressively by my doctor, but I certainly know how you feel. We did a course of steroids, prednisone, if I recall correctly, along with asacol which I think is a maintenance drug for colitis. I've been off of both and free of symptoms for almost 5 years now.

I would suggest you try to live your life an normally as practical. If you're having an especially bad day, then don't try to much. But on the good days, try to be as active and social as possible. If you're in a big city you might be able to find a support group, otherwise you could always find an online group.

  5. My mom has colitis and she said that she was also very depressed when she found out.  She takes Ascol and has very few problems now.

I can relate to not wanting to leave the house (due to a different condition) but I found that if I did things with understanding friends and family, I was able to enjoy myself and then go back home whenever I didn't feel good.

When you first get diagnosed with something, it is the hardest period of time.  Hang in there, and within a few weeks/months/years, you will adapt and will be able to enjoy business as usual!

    Good Luck!
