Ever the Stopping Distance of a vehicle is taken in reverse direction in addition to the forward direction?

recently i was surprised when i was told to measure the stopping distance of the vehicle in reverse dorection, or in reverse gear.

can someone elaborate is it necessary and why?

Yes, it's easy. I suppose you have already measured the stopping distance of a vehicle in forward direction, right? It's the same calculation at the reverse direction. Note that the result will always be positive but it's at the reverse direction.
