Here's a question for people who enjoy trying new food, especially from different parts of the world...

Have you ever tasted something exotic (whether it's a fruit/vegetable, meat, or a specific dish) which you initially thought would be utterly disgusting, only to discover that it was really delicious and enjoyable?

  1. yip - kangaroo, reindeer, crocodile, ostrich and wild boar.

Mussels and jellied eels are possibly the ugliest food you can get but I love them both!

  2. While living in Japan I was taken to a resturant where all the food was ordered for me. I was told that one of the plates was a speciality dish which was raw horse meat.

I have to admit at first I was very disgusted at the thought but it wasn't bad at all.

Some other crazy things I have eaten while overseas have been boiled pigeon (china) dog intestines (china) raw chicken (Japan) pig tongue (japan).

While offered the one thing I was really offended by and refused to eat was whale meat.

  3. I was never into eggplant. I just didn't like the taste/smell of it. Then I tried the Middle Eastern dip Baba Ghanoush. It was spectacular. I was then told it contained eggplant. And then I tried this Iranian dip called Bademjoon. It was great too. Now I like it in all types of preparations.

Though it smells soooo bad when roasting/broiling it. Oh well.

  4. Filipino blood stew

    Serbian Tripe Soup

    Cow Heart and Onion Stew

    All my favorites.

  5. Yup...

    Ethiopian Food.

  6. lambs' tongues.

  7. I was so afraid of sushi before I tried it, but it is now my favorite food haha Quite a change there!

I also was served goose heart once and wasn't told what it was. Had I known I wouldn't have eaten it, but it was soooo good.

  8. The Persian dish, "fensenjon" actually looks like diarrhea but is delicious.
