Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League sign veteran defenseman Landon Oslanski
Landon Oslanski, a Canadian defenseman which plays in the Western Hockey League (WHL), has signed a new deal with Everett Silvertips. Oslanski has played three seasons in WHL before and Silvertips would be the third team that he would play for.
20-year-old blue liner, who would turn 21 in the May 2013, is considered to be a WHL veteran as the league is primarily for juniors which are 15-16 years old and trying to make a for themselves. WHL is used by those players to get some recognition and a
platform to go into bigger leagues like, National Hockey League (NHL), American Hockey League (AHL) or Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
But going into his fourth season of his WHL career, the Camrose, Alberta resident is easily of the oldest players of the league. He was originally picked in 2007 WHL Bantam Draft by Spokane Chiefs and started playing for them in 2009-2010 season. He played
just one game for them and then could not get a chance to play more as he changed his team and shifted to Lethbridge Hurricanes.
In first season at Hurricanes team, he played 65 games and scored 3 goals, 9 assists for a total of 12 points. He had 53 Penalty in Minutes (PIM’s) in the first season. Second season was a lot better as he was able to double his points tally by scoring 25
points in 70 games, seven of them being goals and 18 assists.
The 5-foot-10, 190 pounder, kept improving his performance as he played one more game than the last year and scored seven more points. His points tally crossed 30 as he scored six goals, 26 assists for total of 32 points in 71 games, that included 94 PIM’s,
two more than the previous year.
This takes his total tally of points to 70, with 16 goals and 54 assists and he has already played more than 200 games. This is something which would persuade him to move to bigger leagues, which are for senior players, rather than playing with his juniors.
As for now, he would be joining Silvertips’ training camp, which will commence on next Thursday for three days, which means Oslanski will report to his new team on Wednesday.
