I have a spot where I want to get a real big pot and put a smallish aound 4 ft tall evergreen in it. I live in PA, will it die when iy freezes, since its roots can't get below freeze line? What about the pot/ I left a cement planter out all year and it got alot of water in it and cracked apart, would it do that if it was filled with dirt?

  1. If you have a mild winter, you might get away with it.  A "regular", or cold winter, nope.

If you can't sink it into the ground for the winter, then move it to a protected spot, out of winter winds, and insulate it with straw bales, filling in all the spaces with raked leaves or mulch.  Or pull it into an unheated garage for the worst two months.
