Question:

Evergreen vines for Zone 8?

I'm looking for some suggestions on evergreen vines for Zone 8 (Seattle area). Ideally, I would like something that likes a trellis, with rather small/delicate leaves, flowers or berries at some point of the year, and relatively fast-growing. I'm tired of looking at my neighbor's unattractive rear yard, but don't want to put up a taller fence. :-)

Thanks for your help!

  1. i would try confederate or carolina jassmine, confederate blooms white towards summer and carolina blooms yellow towards spring and both are fast growing and low maintance.

  2. My first choice would be, Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) Common Names: Confederate jasmine, star jasmine, but it is not hardy in my area.

  3. Clematis armandii  Evergreen   Clematis   grows well here in 7b+

  4. Passion Fruit vine is a good choice because it grows very nice flowers, intreresting leaves, and fruit, that is also edible(and tasty). This vine can be very fast growing, and should grow in zone 8. If it gets to tall you can easily cut it back and shape it. This is an amazing plant!

  5. evergreen clematis is good. cold tollerant to zone 7. glossy leaves in the winter, and white blossoms that cover the whole plant all summer

  6. Far too cold for passionfruit unfortunately, but the star jasmine may just get by if it's in a sheltered space or against a warm wall it will take temperatures to 20 deg F, heat doesn't worry it.  it has a relative Trachelospermum asiaticum which will stand 10 deg F and still has the fragrant white flowers for long periods.

Perhaps, lonicera japonica.  Most climbers that have flowers are deciduous in the cold areas, it gives very little to choose from.  Good hunting.
