Everton Manager calls for consistency from his side
Everton manager David Moyes has asked his side to be consistent in their performances against lesser teams and perform like they do against the top teams.
Everton has had a mixed season this year, where although they have managed respectable draws against sides like Manchester United and Chelsea, they have failed to put away teams of lesser standings. The side recently managed an
impressive away victory over Manchester City last night, where goals from Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines were enough to secure all the points. Yaya Toure’s second half goal wasn’t enough to give his side the chance to go top of the premier league rankings,
as Everton bagged all three points.
This proves Everton has the quality to mix it up with the Big Boys of the league but have failed to prove themselves against relegation threatened sides. Everton enjoy one of the best records against Manchester City, where last
night’s victory was the fourth consecutive one against Mancini’s men. Moyes has now called on his players to keep performing like this against sides which don’t play that well.
"We can compete at the top end but we haven't been able to compete at the bottom. We haven't been able to beat the teams below us, especially at Goodison,” stated the Everton manager.
Everton started the game in emphatic fashion, as a beautifully constructed move by Baines and Coleman was finished off by a simple header by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Cahill-c35085. The side really took the game to City as only 10 minutes later, right back
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Victor-Anichebe-c36018. Yaya Toure found the goal, which was deflected. That
was the closest City got to actually take the match in their favour as Everton recorded their 4th consecutive victory over the Citizens.
The win also ended Everton’s 7 match winless streak and Moyes was delighted by the result.
"The resilience and competitiveness of the team were excellent. When we went down to 10 men I thought the evening was going to become even longer but we did a great job. "They were resilient and stuck to their task. It was the
art of defending; blocking shots, getting in the way of things. And the goalkeeper did well, making some terrific saves." stated the Everton coach.
Moyes now believes his side has a chance to regain their mid-table finish, as they have already managed to deny both Manchester clubs and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jagielka-c29902 was seen limping
off from the pitch owing to a thigh issue. The manager confirmed that Jagielka has been suffering from the thigh concern for the entire week and remained a doubtful inclusion in the starting XI.
Everton now host Birmingham in the last premier league fixture of 2010 and would be looking to end the season on a high. A win would see them into the top half of the table and would be the perfect way to get back to their winning
ways.
