Everton beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0: EPL Recap

Everton beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in an English Premier League encounter at Molineux on Saturday, 9th April, 2011.
Mick McCarthy made two changes to his team that lost 4-1 to Newcastle United last weekend. Adlène Guedioura and Steven Fletcher replaced Adam Hammill and Nenad Milijas respectively. Meanwhile, Everton made one change from the team that drew 2-2 against Aston Villa in their last game. Magaye Gueye replaced Seamus Coleman in the midfield.
The hosts began the game confidently and had a wonderful opportunity to score in the third minute of the game. George Elokobi played Guedioura inside the box but his shot was nicely blocked by Phil Neville. Moments later, Fletcher leapt highest to a delivery from a corner and got his header on target, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leon-Osman-c22041 denied him with a splendid clearance off the line.
The hosts dominated possession in the opening 20 minutes and created several clear-cut opportunities to score. However, it was Everton who opened the scoring against the run of play in the 21st minute. Osman curled in a wonderful cross from the right flank and Jermaine Beckford met it with a running header to make it 1-0 for the Toffees.
Just after the half hour mark, Everton created a replica move of the goal, but this time goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey made a superb diving save to palm the ball to safety.
The hosts were made to pay for their wastefulness as Everton doubled their tally in the 39th minute. Hennessey made a splendid save from the corner but the ball fell into the path of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Neville-c29904, who fired a cracking effort from outside the box, and it found the top left corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Wolves made a substitution at half-time, as Michael Kightly replaced Sylvain Ebanks-Blake to add balance to the attack.
The second half got off to a slow start as both teams struggled to dominate the proceedings. Wolves had a wonderful opportunity to score on the hour mark, but Karl Henry’s powerful strike from outside the penalty area was beautifully saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Howard-c35095.

The result meant that Wolves slumped to their 18th defeat of the season and slipped deeper into the relegation zone.
