Sources revealed that the Blues were apparently willing to pay as much as £20 million for the 20-year-old defensive midfielder. Rodwell was recently included in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello’s senior England squad, because of which his suitors seemed to have increased.
It is reported that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Andre Villas-Boas has lined up the midfielder as his top priority in the upcoming January transfer window. However, Moyes could not confirm the rumours and claimed that he had not been contacted by the Blues.
Moyes said in an interview:
“I have had no offers, no contact from Chelsea - there would not be any other words I could add to that. There is nothing from me. We've had no phone call.”
The Toffees are known to be in a tight spot regarding funds to bring in new players and it is because of that reason they sold three players in the summer transfer window. The summer saw the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mikel-Arteta-c25715, Yakubu and Jermain Beckford.
It is no secret that the club chairman Bill Kenwright is currently on the look-out for a buyer interested in the club. With a need for money, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 could be tempted to sell if one of the big four teams comes looking for the prized youngster.
However, Moyes revealed he was not to be tempted and if he was to sell, would only sell at a much higher price than what was estimated by the potential buyers. So if Chelsea hope to buy Rodwell for £20 million, they might have to think again.
Moyes revealed:
“We've always said if anyone wants to bid for the players we can't stop that happening but what we do do is sell expensively.
If we are sellers we are always expensive sellers.”
Rodwell is a product of the Everton youth academy and graduated into the senior team in 2007. Since then he has gone on to make 81 appearances in the Premier League and has eight goals to his name.
