Everton defender Phil Neville inspired by Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs to prolong his career
Everton star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Neville-c29904 has admitted that his former team-mate, Ryan Giggs, has inspired him to carry on playing football at the top level.
Neville started his professional career with the Red Devils and spent 10 successful years at the Old Trafford before moving to Everton in 2005. At the age of 34, Neville is still one of the key players in David Moyes’ Everton side.
His impressive performances for the Toffees invited a bid from Tottenham Hotspur to acquire his services in the January transfer window of 2011. However, Moyes was reluctant to let his prized asset go and rejected the offer.
Neville revealed that he is taking every season as it comes and wants to prolong his playing career with the club. The versatile defender is inspired by former team-mate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985, who is still playing at full fitness for United, despite being in his late
30’s. Giggs has played a huge role in guiding the Red Devils to the top of the league table this season and putting them on course for their 19th Premier League title.
Talking to reporters, Neville said, “At my age you tend to take it one season at a time but I feel as fit as I ever have. I can go on for at least another two or three seasons. I look at someone like Giggsy and he is an inspiration to all of us. He looks
as fit and quick as ever and is still one of the best players in the Premier League."
The former United defender added, "I am trying to follow his example and do all the right things. I have got one year left on my contract and when I come back for next season my plan is to be ahead of everyone else, to be fitter than everyone."
Asked about whether he considered swapping the Merseyside club for Tottenham, Neville said that he never wanted to quit Everton because he was loving his time with the club, and understood his responsibilities as the skipper of the team.
