In view of his inspirational presence in the team and the ability to perform multitude of roles, he quickly became Moyes’ most trusted player. The manager promoted him to the post of captaincy in January, 2007.
Of what he has seen and experienced at Goodison Park during his stay, the 35-year old claimed that the Evertonians are the best set of fans in the Premier League.
The midfielder praised the fans for their unwavering loyalty and support towards the club, pointing out that they would stand behind their team no matter what the result might be.
Everton, who have the English league title on 9 occasions, have not claimed a single piece of silverware in the last 17 years. The last trophy they won was back in 1995, when they beat Manchester United in the final to hoist the FA Cup.
“Win, lose or draw Evertonians always support. In my time at this Club we’ve had success and we’ve had disappointments and, throughout it all, the fans have always remained the same,” he told the reporters.

going to Sunderland away with 5,000 fans.”
