Everton hit hard by Jack Rodwell injury
Everton, of the English Premier League, has been dealt a blow today after receiving the news that young midfielder, Jack Rodwell, will face three months out of action.
The 19-year-old had sustained ligament damage after a tackle with Aston Villa defender, Stephen Warnock, last month. Due to swelling around the area, no firm diagnosis could be made until now. Everton manager David Moyes wrote on his club’s website that the injury will be a setback for the player’s development, and that he had hoped to use Rodwell as much as possible in the foreseeable future.
He said that, “It is a big blow because we have high hopes for him. He is maturing all the time and I can see him getting better all the time. I was ready to play him as often as possible. I did think at this stage of the season we would have a lot of competition for places in central midfield. I thought he would play his games, but I could see Jack coming more into it in the second half of the season.”
Moyes added that the player would not have to undergo surgery on his ankle, saying that, “…from that point of view it is good news, but the bad news is we are going to be without him for two to three months."
Rodwell had been hoping to become involved with the England national team at senior level as coach Fabio Capello attempts to revamp the squad, following a dire campaign at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Unfortunately, it seems that he will be on the sidelines until the away match against Manchester City on 18 December, meaning that he will miss at least 15 matches, including crunch league games against Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, as well as England’s Under-21 European Championship play-off tie against Romania.
