Everton hit by double striker blow
English Premier League side Everton have been hit with a double injury blow with the news that strikers Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe are set to have a spell on the sidelines.
France forward Saha has not played for the Everton first team since the clash with Aston Villa on August 29.
He picked up a calf injury in when playing for his country in a defeat against Belarus in a UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying match. He was initially ruled out for three weeks, but he has yet to make his return. However, he looks set to
be out of action for a while yet.
Everton manager David Moyed told his club's official website on Friday that: “He [Saha] goes to a facility in France to get treatment and looked after and I think it will be two to three weeks before he is available."
Nigeria international out for six weeks
Meanwhile, Nigeria international Anichebe faces a longer spell out after undergoing surgery on a persistent knee problem and he will be out for “six weeks or so,” according to Moyes.
The 22-year-old has had issues with the joint in the past after a challenge by Newcastle United’s Kevan Nolan in February 2009. After surgery, he was out of action for almost a year, making his return in January 2010.
The timing of the strikers’ injuries could not have come at a worse time for Moyes after a dismal start to the campaign. The Toffees boss is in desperate need of firepower to stop the rot of a run which has seen his side pick up just two points from five
EPL games to sit in 19th place in the league.
Everton were also dumped out of the Carling Cup this week by lower-league Brentford after the tie went to penalties.
