Everton manager David Moyes hopes to keep midfielder Jack Rodwell at the club despite strong interest from high profile clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City.
However, he admitted that the club’s huge recent losses will tempt the owners to listen to his offers.
There are reports circulating in the British media that Manchester United have agreed to sign Rodwell at the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season for 25 million pounds.
Moyes told the media, “I am reluctant (to sell Rodwell) because I'm trying to build a football team not dismantle one. I just couldn't imagine http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728, too easily.”
Moyes admitted that no manager wants to see his best players leaving the club but he understands the financial implications that lead to such decisions.
“They have always done everything to keep them. It is the same with me. I wanted to keep Wayne. I also want to keep Jack. I am reluctant to sell my best players,” added the Everton boss.
Moyes had to witness the same kind of situation in 2004, when another product of Everton’s youth academy, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 attracted huge interest from Manchester United. Moyes said that he also wanted to retain Rooney but United came up with a huge offer which
was hard to decline.
Rodwell has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in the English Premier League since emerging from Everton’s youth setup in 2007. He has made 83 appearances for the club and has scored 5 goals so far.
When asked about the future direction of the club Moyes said that he will hold talks with the owners at the end of the season.
The Scot, who is in his 9th year as the manager of the club, said that he will present his views to the board and will listen to their strategies. He said if their plans are workable for him, then he will decide about his future.
