Everton midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Fellaini-c24295 determined to stay with the Toffees
The 23-year-old Everton midfielder, Marouane Fellaini revealed he was ready to hold talks with the Toffees over a possible contract extension. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international has been linked with various top European sides, including La Liga giants Real Madrid,
but denied having been offered and assured his continuation at Goodison Park.
While speaking to reporters Fellaini said, “Everton are a club that really care about me. My relationship with the manager is excellent and I'm delighted that he considers me a key player and wants to extend my contract. The discussions have not yet begun,
but I don't suppose they are far off. For my part, I'm ready and waiting.”
Fellaini joined Everton from Standard Liege in 2008 for a fee of £15 million, after rejecting the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. His transfer fee was the highest ever paid for a Belgian player
and the most Everton had paid for any player. However, he proved to be worth the record transfer fee, earning the Young Player of the Season in his debut season.
His preferred position was always in midfield but because of injuries to key players in the 2008-2009 season, manager, David Moyes deployed Fellaini as a second striker. Despite his best efforts, the Belgian was unable to perform consistently in his new
role and was soon reverted back to midfield. Surprisingly, he scored more goals in his first season when he played in midfield as compared to his short spell as a striker.
In his debut season with the Toffees, Fellaini went on to make 33 appearances and score an impressive 9 goals. His second season was not as successful as he struggled with his new role and injuries, making 30 appearances and scoring 3 goals. This season
once again Fellaini is out injured after making only 24 appearances and finding the back of the net three times.
The 23-year-old picked up an ankle injury during the FA Cup replay against defending champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in February. He did not realise the seriousness of the injury and went on to feature for Everton in the English Premier League fixture against Sunderland.
However, it was then discovered that the player required surgery and exited for the remaining season.
The midfielder insisted he had not been in touch with any other club regarding a possible transfer and was waiting on Everton to offer him a contract extension. While the medical team has claimed he will be sidelined for the rest of the season, Fellaini
believes he can recover sooner and feature for his side in the last few games of the Premier League.
Fellaini said, “I'm counting on returning to training as soon as possible and being available for the end of the season. My operation went well. The plaster came off on Monday and that'll allow me to fully begin my rehab. If everything goes well, I hope
to be able to help Everton at the end of the Premier League season.”
