Everton beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Lights in the FA Cup quarterfinal and willnow play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Wembley for a place in the final.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes’ side, who were held 1-1 at Goodison Park by Sunderland two weeks ago.
Everton looked threatening right from the start and came close of scoring early on when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leon-Osman-c22041 played the ball to Jelavic, but the striker was unable to add significant power on to his header.
Another arrived for the visitors in the 8th minute, when Tim Cahill’s attempt at goal was kept out of harm’s way by the Black Cats goal keeper, Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian International was tested once again in the 20th minute, by another Cahill shot, followed by a header from Jelavic but the keeper was up to the task on both the occasions and denied the Toffees the opener.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 finally managed to break through in the 24th minute, when Gueye made a good run from the left and his subsequent cross was picked up Jelavic in the box, who side footed the goal past a helpless
Mignolet.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-McClean-c17703 corner but his effort went well over the post.
The Toffees threatened to double their lead in the opening moments of the second half, after Magaye Gueye’s 47th minute corner reached Osman at the edge of the box. However, his volley missed the target by a couple
of inches.
But the Toffees continued to press forward and got the second goal in the 56th minute after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Fellaini-c24295 tried to play the ball to an unmarked Jelavic. Vaughan’s attempted clearance went horribly wrong as the
ball ended up in his own goal. The Welsh footballer had come on as a substitute in the second half.
Despite a two goal advantage, Everton continued their aggressive play with Jelavic having another go at the goal but his shot was punched away by Mignolet, who had a very busy evening.
Everton boss, David Moyes then brought in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jagielka-c29902 in place of Gueye to strengthen his defence and the Toffees closed out the match to book a place in the semi-final of the Cup, where they will square off against Merseyside rivals,
Liverpool.
