Everton vs. Liverpool preview, English Premier League
Everton prepare to host Liverpool this Saturday in the first Merseyside derby of this season, in what will undoubtedly been the highlight of this weekend. Despite not spending as much as the Reds in the summer transfer window, Everton have not had too bad
a start to this season, having secured seven points from the opening five fixtures. The visitors have just a three point lead, with ten points, having played an extra game, which puts them in the top half of the table.
Everton forward Tim Cahill revealed he was looking forward to hosting Liverpool over the weekend, in a fixture that would draw attention from all over the world. The 31-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 international has been at the club since 2004 and revealed he believed
the club was now a big part of his life. He admitted he considered a match against the Reds to be only less important that a World Cup match.
Cahill said while speaking to reporters:
“I think it is one of the biggest [matches] other than playing for your country in a World Cup. The derby is magical.
It is not only the day of the game, it is after, it is before, it is the grudges, the banter.”
Cahill has a somewhat impressive record against Liverpool, having scored five goals in their last 13 encounters in the Premier League. However, it is not yet certain if Cahill will be participating for the Toffees on Saturday, having sustained an injury
against Manchester City last weekend. The Everton playmaker will have to wait for a late fitness test to determine whether or not he can play against Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish urged his side to maintain their cool when they traveled to Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby. Unlike http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes, Dalglish spent a fair amount of money in the summer to bring in notable reinforcements. However,
they have not yet managed to deliver results but the Scotsman was certain they would be successful if they had belief.
Dalglish said in an interview:
“The most important thing for us is to be confident, composed and have the belief we can win the game.
It is up to us to get that into our players and get them to believe it.”
A trip to Goodison Park is never easy for Liverpool, Dalglish is all too aware of that, but he was certain his side would be able to manage a decent result if they remained calm and composed. The Reds will build and improve on their narrow 2-1 victory over
Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend and will be able to focus more on the Premier League since they don’t have either of the European competitions to distract them.
He continued:
“You have to earn things you want in this life and if we want three points from Goodison on Saturday then we will need to stand up and be counted because they will make it difficult for us.”
