Everton’s defensive midfielder, Jack Rodwell, has claimed that the Toffees are in with a best possible chance of finishing the season ahead of their Merseyside's rivals Liverpool. He also
insisted that Everton could also qualify for the UEFA Europa League provided they carry their same winning form in the remaining matches of the season.
He expressed his delight at his team’s current form which has earned David Moyes’ side some favourable results off late. Rodwell believed that the Toffees could spring a late surprise in
the Premier League by grabbing the Europa League berth and finishing above Liverpool. Everton have not managed to finish above their local rivals since 2005 and the midfielder reckons that this is the best opportunity to break the six year jinx.
He further told, "We have hit form. We started off badly but we are climbing the table now, so that's good. We always seem to do that recently, start off slowly and then leave it late to
try and get as high up as we can. But there are still quite a few games left, so hopefully we can do it.”
Rodwell condemned the injuries that his team had to deal with during the season and regarded the loss of players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Fellaini-c24295 as a big set-back. He applauded
the effort of young striker Jermaine Beckford and the way he stepped up in the absence of Frenchman Saha.
He also praised the club’s youth system which has produced a lot of quality players as Everton had to acquire their services in the absence of some of their top players. Rodwell is also one
of those players who have come through the club’s youth rank.
He concluded, "You just need the confidence and you need the experience, so hopefully they will get that and they will make the step up like I did. The academy system is really good and it
just seems to keep on getting stronger. Hopefully there will be a few more come through this season and next season and challenge, with a few knocking on the door already."
Everton are currently seventh in the League table with 47 points and are five points adrift of their neighbours Liverpool. With four games left to play in the season, the chance of qualifying
for the Europa League seems to be slim but certainly not impossible.
