Influential Everton left-back, Leighton Baines, has claimed that he will not rest on his laurels after enjoying a highly successful Barclays Premier League season with the Blues and wants to establish himself as one of the best English left-backs.
Baines was Everton’s stand-out performer of the recently concluded 2010/11 season, as the Merseyside club fought their way back from a below par start to finish in the top half of the table.
The 26-year-old, who was signed from Wigan Athletic in 2007, was a revelation at the Goodison Park last season. He was named http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019’s best player of the season for his exceptional and consistent performances throughout the term.
Moreover, Baines’ impressive displays at the club level did not go unnoticed as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016.
Despite completing a successful season with both club and country, the 26-year-old defender has asserted that he will not rest on his laurels and is determined to make sure that his impressive form continues.
He said: “It is important not to think 'that is enough' and stand still because once you do that you are effectively going backwards as other people are improving as well.”
The former Wigan Athletic defender is determined to take his game to the next level and wants to improve.
“I just want to keep on improving really. I will come back and look at ways to improve — whether it be discussing my game with the coaching staff here or something that I am already aware of. You always learn and you never stop." Baines added.
Baines scored seven impressive goals and provided 11 assists for Everton last season. Although the English defender is happy with his goal tally, he wants to provide more assists.
“For me, getting the assists is probably more important than scoring the goals because it is an important part of my game to help the team.” He concluded.
Baines was the only Everton player to play every single minute of the Barclays Premier League season for Everton, scoring five goals while also naming four assists to his credit.
