I am about a 19 handicap so I am not that good but I am also not that bad. However, every 3 out of 10 drives something happens in my swing that causes this problem... My ball maybe goes 100-125 yards, with very low trajectory and hooking hard to the left. Any tips or suggestions that could help me with this problem? Thanks

  1. I am a low handicap golfer and have this problem from time to time.  What is happening is you are accelerating too much at the point of impact, forcing the club face to be closed.  The thing that works for me is to number one, put it out of your mind.  Second, take more than normal practice swings when on the tee box.  This will help you to loosen up, and third, don't try to kill the ball.  Let the club do the work for you.

  2. sounds like your coming over the top of the ball. slowly take back swing straight back as  far as you can then release smoothly!!

  3. you have the duck hook. Make sure to get your hands up and away from your body, the link is very helpful.

  4. Try going to a weaker grip.  You are coming over the top so you club face is flat instead of slightly up.  Also pay attension to how you line up to the ball.  You could also be hitting it on the heel which would give you that effect as well.  Center your club and even compensate by a couple millimeters towards the toe.  If you have an inside out swing (natual draw) you will actually increase distance due to the club speed increase.

  5. Some things you should watch out for:

    1. Try to slow down on your back swing and wait for two seconds at the top of your back swing.

    2. Follow through - i.e. swing to the end or finish your swing.

    3. See where your your elbow is if you are right -handed. It needs to be closer to your body.

    4. Check that you are standing straight up. Don't bend your back.

    5. If all else fails, go to your nearest PRO. It may be that this is the best advice.

    Good luck!

  6. I think you got tired and either top and toe the ball because the right hand took over or you look up before you hit the ball. Best advice is to go to the driving range and get a pro.

  7. You are not finishing your backswing. And/or you are making the transition from backswing to downswing too fast. Slow your backswing down, pause and set at the end of your turn , and fire away.
