  1. Well there are these sites, it's mostly done by tonage however.

Best way to figure out is call around to your local feed stores.

EDIT- Kevin. I know you said you have some cattle, does grinding hay run pretty expensive down there and how cheap are people getting it.

Kevin- You may want to check around up in central texas. Our coastal and bermuda is going for around $35-60 a bale. We're suppose to get rain up here this weekend so I'm hoping that we'll get a second cutting of coastal off the ground.

  2. Holy cow!! or rather...Holy Horse. where are you all at that hay is so high?? i get 1500 lb rounds of regular grass hay for about 40 bucks and 3 wire alfalfa for about 6 timothy being cheaper than that!!! Ouch!!

    I love where i live.

  3. Believe it or not, craigs list will have local hay prices. We have baught quit a bit there. Luck

Edit- Rounds of costal are getting up to $80, We just picked up some milo for $45 a round and alfalfa 2 wire squares are up to $15. We picked up a mixer at a ranch auction a while back so we grind up our own hay, and mix it with grain ourself. Labor intensive but cheeper.

Edit- Here in the hill country of Texas we have only rain fall farmers, so if the rain year is bad (either too much or not enough) the hay prices skyrocket. We do go north for our coaltal, and New Mexico for our alfalfa. We broker what we don't use. We have 2 trucks, 2 trailers so when we get hay we get quite a bit.
