  1. You probably don't have his trust yet.  Try this website for information on bonding and gaining your hamsters trust.

  2. well make sure you are holding him right

hold the hamster with two hands cupped together

or maybe if you try and petting it first and then when it gets used to you being there(you dont want to startle it) you can then hold it.

  3. I know what you are saying; they either bite or jump.

You gotta go slowly to it; and talk to it softly. (:

Once it's kinda " cornered " in its cage put your TWO hands together like a kid begging for money :P

It'll go onto you eventually; please don't grab it. :(

I know; i know. It works.

I had several hamsters before, one lived to 3 years and one month ! =O

    Or you can buy hamster treats ^_^ ;

    hehe.

I taught mine to go up and down the stairs with it ! :D

I went faster than me !

well; at first it just went up on its own then I was like " STAIRS ! " and she was like zooming up; and then she got her treat (:

But as she got older, I didn't force her :(

I hope I helped and good luck !

  4. A lot of people say it takes time. I say it takes time and practice. First of all make sure your hamster is fully awake and not sleeping, just woken up or about to sleep. When you've finally caught him hold him onto you like baby. Hold him firmly but not tightly and close to your chest. This is for his health, you don't want him jumping from your hand to the ground. Depending on how tall you are that could be like us jumping from a 10 story building. Now, expect him to be petrified remember he doesn't know you and considering he's a small rodent he's thinking "I'm going to be a meal" lol. I just got a new baby Teddy Bear Hamster Saturday and I have been holding him everyday so he can get used to me quick. All hamsters are different and this guy did not want to be held and was jumping around and squirming. I finally got him to calm down by giving him a cheerio and I learned the way to this guys heart was his stomach four cheerios later he was sitting in my hand waiting for more :) My first hamster loved to be put between my b***s lol and enjoyed a ride as I went throughtout my daily chores. My second hamster loved to be put on my shoulders once he saw the hands as a way to the shoulders he jumped in them as if the were elevators. Find what your hammy likes (if your a guy I wouldn't try the chest thing) and roll with it. If you want your hammy to know you get to know him. Oh and I know this sounds weird, but giving them a kisses seems to quicken the process. My hammy named Benji soon realized that he wasn't food and wasn't as frantic. Idk if that makes sense. Good luck with your hammy once you figure it out its worth it !

  5. How long ago did you get him?  If he's fairly new, he might just still be nervous.  If not, try letting him sniff your fingers for a little while before you pick him up.  If you need to, let him sniff your fingers and then give him a treat, so that your fingers have a good association.  Try letting him crawl into a rolling ball, and then from the ball to the floor and begin by nicely petting the hamster in a secure area.  Make sure you're picking up the hamster in a nice way.  Try cupping under the hamster.  Some hamsters like their backs covered, and others it creeps them out, so figure out which your hamster likes.

  6. think of it in his point of view. u are a like a million times larger than him and here comes this huge hand coming into his cage reaching for him. he is just really scared. what u want to do it slowly reach into his cage with a  treat in your hand. hold out the treat for him to come and get it. when he comes and get it say "good boy" in a happy cheerful voice. and gently pet him with one finger. do this a few times and then try and pick him up. if he still does jump away use a toilet paper tube to pick him up. u just set in on his cage floor and he will crawl into it. it may take awhile, keep that in mind. once he crawls into it remove it out of his cage. tilt it slightly to an angle and let him slide out onto your free hand. i did this with my hamsters and it doesn't hurt them. and remember, take your time. this isnt somethin that happens quickly. hamsters take some time to adjust to the owner.

    hope this helped!!

  7. look on a website to tame it

mayb hold  it firmer but not to tight

  8. hand feed it couple times until it get used to your hands hand then pick it up in a proper way slowly. i did that before and it worked just be patient

  9. He obviously doesnt like you dumbass

  10. Your hamster has to feel safe and comfortable with you. Start out by petting him with a Qtip so he's more comfortable being touched , then use a washcloth to pick him up so he feels more sheltered until he's comfortable
