Tornado alley and all the southern states that get hit by these awesome weather conditions should build housing that is designed to withstand these violent storms. Timber built designs are a joke and get totally wiped out, so why continue to build them.

  1. Precisely what sort of construction were you proposing?

Tornadoes destroy masonry structures as well as wood, as was the case in downtown Atlanta several months ago.  While building codes specify certain measures that can be taken to make a structure resistant to hurricanes, there are no codes that apply to tornadoes because there are no tornado-resistant designs.

  2. because they are retared and don't know how to bluild houses  that are good.. or they can be just lazy or sumthing :]

  3. Some companies have been building concrete homes for a while now. I think most people just buy wood frame houses because they are more common and cheaper to build. A lot of builders have started using metal brackets to help tie the rafters to the walls and they are using more plywood on the outside instead of cellulose boxing. Both of these modifications improve the strength of the house, but I doubt if there is any structure that can withstand an F5 like the one that went through my neighborhood in 1999, 318+mph winds.

  4. Because its cheaper to build all of them out of timber, and have all of their owners bet money in an office pool called "tornado insurance" that they won't get hit.  It saves homeowners money and earns the insurance companies a profit because statistically speaking, most houses never get hit by a tornado.
