Everybody contributing in Detroit Tigers' success – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Everybody played his part in the Detroit Tigers victory over the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, October 7 in second game of five match American League Divisional Series.
Tigers pitching rotation, in particular, showed what they are capable of. Justin Verlander produced a match winning performance in the opener and Doug Fister followed his foot-steps in Game 2 to lay the foundation of an impressive Tigers’ victory.
Relief pitcher Al Alburquerque also made his presence felt as he held off the A’s in the ninth to take his side to a crucial 2-0 series lead. However, the star of the show was Don Kelly, who drove in vital runs in closing stages of the game, giving Tigers
a chance to come back from behind to clinch a thriller.
It seems the Tigers have been kissed with a dose of good luck over the last few weeks. A month ago, they were three games behind the Chicago White Sox on the American League Central Division standings table and here they are now playing their second straight
playoffs.
"Honestly, I don't even know how to explain the swings of emotion from inning to inning, from pitch to pitch," catcher Gerald Laird said. "To be able to go up 2-0 is huge, but I really like that our team has been tested to see what we're made of."
"That's why the game is so great," Cabrera said. "It's not about one guy, you need everybody on the roster.”
Cabrera added, "Nobody gives (the A's) credit, but we got a lot of respect for that team. We're in a good position, but that doesn't mean it's over."
When the last guy on the big league roster drives in the winning run and wild pitching ties the score, it is obvious things are going your way. It seems the Tigers are destined to win the World Series championships this series.
The way they handle their nerves under pressure is a clear sign of the comfort level they are feeling right now. It will be interesting to see if they can finally give their fans what they always dreamed of.
