Alright, try just talking to girls as you normally would, but without any intentions.  Just go to meet and get to know new people.  They may get turned off if they think you have certain intentions with them, but if they see you're just being nice and trying to get to know new people, they'll open up better.  

If you find someone interesting that you've chatted to for a couple of days, invite them to go somewhere along with you and your friends.    This will show them you're not trying to get in your pants, and they'll get to know and be interested in the real you.  

You can also try this, I was kind of interested in a girl and wanted to get to know her better, so I invited her somewhere without making it date-like.  It was a nice day, so I just texted her "hey, it's a nice day, i'm trying to find someone to walk to Caine's to grab something to eat.  You interested?"  This was fun, and led to us eventually dating for a little while.   What's funny, is this is one of the time's i didn't have any real intentions.  I didn't have a huge crush on this girl and wasn't trying to make a date, which was usually my problem.  With this girl, I was just trying to get to know her better, and it somehow turned into what I wanted.

About getting numbers, I'm not good at the whole going to a party or club and meeting girls and getting numbers.  I usually meet them through friends or class, and as we see each other often, we just naturally exchange numbers.  

good luck man!  I have terrible luck with girls, but I've found that as I try to not focus on getting a girlfriend, I end up having more fun, and in the end more luck mainly because I'm not trying so hard.
