  1. Slew's Tizzy - Curlin exacta box.

Rags to Riches would be a play at 6-1 or higher for those looking for value, but I just don't see her hitting the board.

  2. The filly has a shot, and I do think she'll at least make the exacta.  If Curlin gets into a duel with Hard Spun or another horse too early in the race it would open the door for Rags to Riches to thieve it.  But Curlin seems the most likely.  I think it'll go Curlin-Rags over either Imawildandcrazyguy, Tiago, Hard Spun or maybe Slew's Tizzy, pretty much in that order of preference.

  3. no curlin will win he had a bad derby but u saw what he could do at the preakness. its either curlin or an upset

  4. Well geez, as long as all the horses get a chance to run their best race and everyone pulls up sound, why would it matter if Curlin didn't win?  If it's a good race, then whoever wins is okay, as far as I'm concerned.

Think of it this way:  If Curlin wins, then he's on his way to stardom and that's a great thing for racing.

If Rags to Riches wins, that will grab the public interest because of the female-beating-males angle.  And from the breeding standpoint, it's a neat thing because then you have one broodmare, Better Than Honour, the dam of two Belmont winners!  How cool is that?

If Hard Spun wins, that redeems his performances in the Derby and Preakness and gives his sire, the late Danzig, another Belmont winner to go along with Danzig Connection, who was one of Woody Stephens' five consecutive Belmont winners.  Plus Hard Spun's third dam is Luiana, the dam of Preakness and Bemont winner Little Current.  Isn't that a neat angle?

If Slew's Tizzy wins, that boosts the stud career of sire Tiznow, who is a scion of the Man O' War-Fair Play sire line.  That's a fun fact to know, isn't it?

If C P West wins, that boosts the career of his sire, Came Home, who was a great, consistant horse of just a few years back.  Plus C P West is out of a Dynaformer mare, and Dynaformer was the sire of Barbaro!  There's a great reason to be happy if he wins.

If Tiago wins, it's an awesome thing because he's a half-brother to Derby winner Giacomo.  That would make his victory an interesting one from the breeding standpoint.

Imawildandcrazyguy is sired by Wild Event, a stallion who started out in Florida and was exported to Brazil.  Imawildandcrazyguy is inbred to Shenanigans, a mare who was the dam of a pretty darn good runner named Ruffian back in the 1970's.  He's an interesting horse because he was immediately gelded after his first day of training, after he almost killed his exercise rider.  His trainer says "He's still a little bit crazy. He's gotten better on the track, but in the barn, I'm still questioning who's the boss--me or him."  Could this be another John Henry in the making?

FWIW, as far as I'm concerned, as long as all the horses and riders come back from the race safely, it's all good, whoever wins.  Bring on the Belmont!

  5. Well,

They hyped up Circular Quay for the Derby and Preakness, and he ran like c**p.

I think the Belmont will run more true to form, with the distance being so long, and only 7 horses.

Curlin will romp, with Hard Spun, and then maybe the Filly, or Tiago.

  6. curlin did great at the preakness (9 1/2 furlongs) he didn't have the grit to get the final strides in the derby (10 furlongs), he will be too tired to finish the belmont, plus hard spun & rags to riches were raised to run 10 furlongs, i think he will come in 4th or 5th, and nobody tell me i'm crazy or anything for believing this, if i'm wrong ya'll can rub it in my face monday

  7. The last time a filly won the Belmont was 100 years ago so I really dont expect her to be a threat. The last filly to win a triple crown race was Winning Colours who won the Derby and finished up the track in the other two legs. I would be tempted to try Hard Spun if the track was off. Curlin looks like he has a chance to be a very good horse based off his learning experience in the Derby and his Preakness run. It says something for his sire and the dam of his sire Dance Smartly a Breeders Cup winner. The rest seem like they are running for minor awards, but it is a horse race and as Sarava proved a few years ago, if you are in the race you have a chance to win, be it great or small.
