My husband and I went out to a local restaurant a few days ago

(David's Catfish House here in Brewton, Alabama) we ordered our meal,

paid for it by credit card and tipped the waitress cash. We THOUGHT

everything went smoothly UNTIL we looked at our bank statement online

and guess what????? The waitress wasn't satisfied with her tip so she

took it upon herself to add a $10 tip to our receipt where my husband

signed his name!! He has a habit of not writing anything in the tip

line if we tip in cash but that won't happen again!

If you go out to eat DON'T FORGET to fill out the entire credit card receipt slip!!

  1. what a b*^&%#*.  you should go in there and go nuts on her and management

  2. thanks for the tip.  it's unfortunate that the waitress had to be such a butt...you should complain about what she did to the manager.  at the least, you're giving the manager heads up...

i do make it a habit to write "cash" in the tip area when i actually leave a cash tip.

  3. You definitely have to report the waitress. I'm sure this wasn't a one time only offense by her.

I have a good one for you though. Me and my friends in high school made it a tradition to go to Pizza Hut's pizza buffet every Friday during the school year. One time after we went, the manager and our waitress ran out the restaurant ran out of the building as we got into our cars screaming at us about how we were always there and never left a good enough tip. She then demanded we payed a larger tip or she would call the cops on us! That was the worst I have experienced, and I have never gone there again.

By the way, we tipped at least 15% every week. If it wasn't a buffet I would tip more, but their duties took all of placing a pitcher of coke on the table and pointing at the buffet.

  4. OMG. I'm a waitress, and we had a waitress that did that too! And of course, she got fired. It is illegal and you can press charges against this girl. BUT the thing was, customers didn't come back on it, the other waitresses caught her doing it and we told the boss. She was lucky that customers didn't come back on her.

I know what you mean about not totaling the bill. I see it everyday. We have to circle the total, if the customer doesn't. That way we know what the total is.

Make sure you go back and demand your money back. Good luck!

  5. I'd call the bank & tell them you didn't spend that. What a dumb s***k!

  6. Thanks! You should go back to the resteraunt! Thats illegal u know!! I will make sure that i am careful now!!

  7. Your local bank may have an electronic dispute form that you may be able to fill out.  Show the teller your original receipt and the bank statement.  You may be able to get your money back.

  8. Yeah one waitress did that to us . but the difference is she took hers out on the way to giving us our change back we saw her do that and she got fired. Call the manager. Let them know that she is doing that, if she did it to you , you can bet she is doing it to others.

  9. On the same lines as the Credit cards....

My husband was issued a CC but he hadn't activated it as his company had changed to a different carrier.

A week later or so he got a call that the card was being used on some computer web sites. "is it you?"

The person that was doing it actually worked for the CC company.  Unbelievable!

  10. Definitely go back to the restaurant and let the manager know what happened.  For folks who run their credit cards on the limit line, that 'little' theft could cost them a ton of money in over the limit fees.  I hope the manager sets her up so she can catch her in the act.

  11. Waitpeople are trained by ALL restaurants (where reservations are required) to run a 15% tip (soon to go to 20%)...before bringing your charge slip back for you to sign.

If you don't want that done, don't pay by card.

A fine restaurant did that to us once, my hubby complained BITTERLY, and the manager gave him a signed business card where a "comp" meal with Champagne would be given us whenever we wanted it.  We finally used it FIVE YEARS LATER (she didn't date it). ...Not all bad things turn out bad!

  12. Good advice. You should also check your credit card statement each month to make sure the receipt matches the amount charged.

Many restaurants have procedures to prevent this kind of employee dishonesty but obviously not all of them do. I'm glad you caught it.

  13. All I can say is that is good advice, and also to the waitress: karma's a *****! lol
