  3. No, I am not.

Funny, the optimistic figures (increase???) for the number of vegetarians comes from a vegetarian organization. Check meat consumption in the last five years.

the numbers have remained steady at 2-5 percent of the population. Simply put, that would mean 2-5 for every 100 people you meet will be vegetarian. The high end figure (5%) is suspected to be optimistic  as many of those surveyed claimed they are vegetarians but admitted to eating fish and or chicken on a regular basis.

  4. yes. i just became one actually about 3 days ago

  5. I'm a vegetarian

  6. ocassionally, i'm a part-time vegetarian

  7. You're not going to get a truly random sampling of people here.

  8. nope, i love cheeseburgers :]

  9. Nope.  I can have meals with no meat, but I am far from a vegetarian.  I love my steaks too much!  Along with a lot of other meat.

  10. i am 1 step further then vegitarian, im vegan :)

  11. no because in the bible it says to eat meat because he made us to eat meat but whatever

  12. yes

  13. Yes. Have been since I was 10.. that's 18 years now.. wow...

Proud to be VEG and not looking back..

my favorite meat (before I quit) was fish.. it was the hardest to "give up"

  14. I'm a vegan.

Where I live, it's not very common...

  15. No!

  16. Yes, I'm a vegan as of today (after about two months of being vegetarian) People think I'm too young, I'm 15, and their are tons of kids my age who are obese and doing drugs and stuff. This is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

You can't call yourself an environmentalist and eat meat, it's such an oxymoron. The meat industry makes more pollution than all the cars, trucks, planes, jets, and boats combined. Don't wear a "THINK GREEN" shirt and eat a burger from McDonald's...

You don't need as much protein as you think, the average meat eating American still eats way too much protein.. And calcium, you can get that from anything, not just cow's milk, which is gross! (pus and blood)

The meat and dairy industry obviously wants you to think you need it.... YOU DON'T!

Go Veg, and save the animals, the environment, AND your life!

  17. used to be

  18. No i just are a wonderful crispy chicken biscuit from burger king. Not one person in my family is.

  19. I'm a vegan. We make up about 1% of the population in the UK and the USA.

There are between 3 and 4 million vegetarians in the UK, and 2.4% of North America are vegetarians (this all includes vegans).

    Hope this helps!

    Edit: I wonder why I got a thumbs-down? Angry meat-eater?

Exsft: The consumption of meat has gone up because the population has gone up. Even if the vegetarian population goes up more than proportionally to the population (e.g. 2 to 5%) meat consumption will still go up. Learn to use statistics properly!

  20. Yes, by default. I am allergic to all meats! I can only eat fruits and veggies, (fresh or frozen), fish, rice, and gluten free pastas. I can eat cheese in moderation, and cannot eat nuts!

Leads me to believe, meat is not good for our bodies. In moderation maybe they are not too bad, but for myself, they are killer!

  21. I am. Here are some statistics to tell you about everyone else in America. Remember stats are different around the world-- 1 in 5 Indians are vegetarian!

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 15 2008/PRNewswire/ -- The just-released

"Vegetarianism in America" study, published by Vegetarian Times

(vegetariantimes.com), shows that 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3

million people, follow a vegetarian-based diet. Approximately 0.5 percent,

or 1 million, of those are vegans, who consume no animal products at all.

In addition, 10 percent of U.S., adults, or 22.8 million people, say they

    largely follow a vegetarian-inclined diet.

Look how much has changed in 5 years!!!

In the United States, an 2003 Harris Poll conducted for a vegetarian

organisation, found that 4-10% of the American population calls itself

"vegetarian". However, only 2.8% of the population never eats meat,

poultry, or fish/seafood. The rest are "occasional vegetarians", who

sometimes eat meat, or avoid red meat and eat poultry, or avoid those,

but eat fish. The estimation is that 1/3-1/2 of the 2.8% is also vegan

(specifically, the percentage of population that indicated that they

never eat Meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy products, eggs or honey

    was 1.8%[1].

  22. I am a vegetarian and have been for 5 years.

Started when I was a kid, then ate meat again, but went back to vegetarian 5 years ago and intend to stay that way for life. Trying to go vegan too: no eggs, dairy or honey.

  23. Yes! :-)

  24. yes... there is no point in eating meat most of the flavor in meals comes from the spices anyway

  25. Nope, I'm not a veggie

I don't like any meat/fish but I can eat it sometimes.

  26. No. I eat whatever my family makes, and that's always meat. But I don't care that much for beef. I could live without it. My family kind of says "eat it now while you can." Because my grandma, and my older aunts and uncles and some cousins have all developed allergies to meat once they hit around 50, so my mom tells me that I'll miss it one day! I respect anyone's right to pick what they want to eat. It's funny because my 2 year old cousin is a "vegetarian." He barely talks, but everyone was stressing about how he never ate anything he was given when he was about one, and I said "Maybe he's a vegetarian!" Half jokingly, but it turns out that even a year later, he does not eat meat! He only eats fruit, celery, and wheat products. It's odd because he did it all by himself. I don't think he's ever eaten meat even once. His sister on the other hand would eat people if you let her. It's so funny.

  27. I'm a Vegan!!!!! =)

  28. I am a vegetarian. I have always not liked red meat as well, and then I just gave up all the other meats too.

  29. I'm a vegetarian

  30. Yes,I will have been one for five years this October!

  31. yes i'm a vegetarian (which btw means not eating all meat, not just red meat).... i know quite a few other vegetarians (though some eat seafood)... and i know quite a few more people who have significantly reduced their meat intake.
