  1. The most you can go to boot camp as is E-3, after schooling you make E-4, and if you reenlist after 2 yrs, then you can be promoted to E-5. Go to http://www.mynavyonline.com for more detailed info.I'm Kjc88 there.

  2. There are ways of going in as an E-5; I met a girl who went in as an MU (musician) with an E-5, I guess she is very talented and plays quite a few instruments. But that is far and few.

So, next option is to go in to a rate that will give you an E-4 right after "A" school such as SEAL, EOD, ET, NUC ratings, and I am sure there are other ratings (find out).

If that doesn't work either, then, try to get in as high as E-3. Then, work harder than guys in your command and try to get "CAPed" by the CO to an E-4, then E-5, or study hard and make it the old fashion way (some rates are harder to get promoted than the others, even though you passed the exam).

Helpful hint: Before you go in, you can either enlist 2 of your buddies to get an E-3, or 1 buddy for an E-2. Or ask your recruiter for the PQS (Personal Qualification Standard) and complete it before boot to make one higher rank. Or get promoted out of boot, get promoted out of "A" school. I am sure there are other ways, so do some research.

    EOD1, USN. & made E-5 in less than 3 yrs, E-6 in 7.

  3. My husband is in the Navy and he was able to become an E-5 as soon as he got to the boat (after two years of schooling) just by re-enlisting and adding an extra two years on.

  5. , if you have some college you will get E-3 after boot camp, and if enroll in a high tech rating, high manning need you will get E-4 but not higher..,

you can re-enlist later for E-5, but usually after the first enlistment is up..!
