Question:

Everyone says they barely notice favors, but would you pay attention if they are truly unique?

All the questions on YA that I read regarding favors say something along the lines of "nobody cares about them, but I would be offended if they weren't there." However, would you notice if the favors are not from the usual golf ball/ candle variety? I am combining five jordan almonds with a couple of really pretty Russian chocolates and have written a little poem to indicate the significance of both (I'm Russian, the groom is Italian).

We fell in love, staring across the room.

Now here we are, a bride and groom.

A heartfelt thank you, we'd like to say

For being here on our special day

Russian chocolates from the bride

And something Italian from the groom's side

Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat

To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.

Five wishes for the new husband and wife --

Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!

What do you think? Would you pay attention to something like this, since it is unique?

  1. I think that's a neat idea! Gives a little more background on the two of you! We got 12 oz stadium cups printed with our names & date & I found the cutest bride & groom skelton heads with a unique design all around them. So the cups are our favors. My brother and his wife did cups for thier wedding and we loved the idea. The cups can be used forever! ;)

  2. The poem is unique because you wrote it but only people who actually take the time to read it will notice that. The candy being unique? Not so much. People will probably say something along the lines of, "Oh, these are Russian chocolates!" and then eat them. The IDEA of combining the heritages is unique in itself but probably not what people will notice.

PS: I worked with a Russian woman who used to get us candy from her homeland and it was good, no doubt.

  3. honestly i think that the poem i very nice and you should make sure that your guest know you took the time to write it.  Because honesty most people who go to the wedding isn't going to know about the poem and all they are going to do is eat the candy and trow away the rest.

  4. I love it! Simple and sweet! I think it is very unique and works with you and your FH style! Congrats!

  5. I wouldnt read the poem. But I would like the candy, especially the Russian choc. Most people are at least mildly interested in edible favors -- its the tacky, personalized "Jim & Cindy" seashell-encrusted picture frames that nobody cares about.

  6. I think that's an adorable idea. I love favors when they're edible, but I could care less about the knick-knacks. Good job thinking of a fantastic favor!

  7. Sign your name to the poem. In truth, I'd notice, but, then again, I'm a hopeless romantic. The people in my family if they'd been invited to the wedding prolly wouldn't notice. Sorry kiddo. I'm sure that more people would notice just because it IS unusual and romantic, but then again maybe not. I'm just having candy bars with a cute label about my fiance and I. Lame, I know, but, ::sigh:: cheap as well. :D

  8. I like the idea of edible favors, and I'm certain they'll be very appreciated by all your guests.  I do feel like the guests need to get something special, and edible favors are a great way to do that without making them feel responsible for taking something silly home that they'll never use.  I also like the way you've incorporated both cultures into the candy gift.  I'm Italian too- be careful with those Jordan almonds- my mom screwed up her jaw eating one once after my little brother was born!

  9. The poem is very sweety, but truly, I wouldn't care. I don't mean to be rude, but it's an honest answer.

  10. Ah, we always notice favours, and love them all!

I think your idea is wonderful - and very cool. Any chocolate from Europe is awesome!

Was recently at an Italian/Ukrainian wedding - it was amazing! So much food we could barely move! They did so many dishes from each culture - so we had veal and varynyky, tortellini and holubtsi! And the music of course was amazing! Polka, polka, polka!

  11. Are you asking if chocolate, almonds, and a poem would be unique enough for people to notice?

My answer would be no.  Chocolate, almonds, and a poem are not unique.

That said, they would make lovely favors and I would enjoy eating the chocolates and almonds (probably not pay attention to the poem).

  12. that is absolutely beautiful. i think everyone would love them and remember them as well

  13. Chocolate doesn't strike me as unique, regardless of where it is from. If it has meaning to you, then go ahead and use it.

  14. i think it may mather to those you mather too (not like eadable things) but yeah poems or something small would go into the scrapbook or shelf as a memory of a dear friends happy day

so would mather cause she mathered that much, someone i was just aquainted to...not so much...i tend to collect memories from the things that mathers

its not normal where i grew up to even have such favors, if i were to marry in US (its likely i will), and do have a wedding thats not just very limited, and considered having favors ...then i'd be picking favors my fam and closes friends would like not worry to much about the rest...

your hosting a party wich you invited them too...your already doing them a favor ;)

and well you cant always please everyone

  15. I love the poem, it almost made me cry. Make sure people know you wrote it!

  16. I think it's a beautiful idea.  I'm including jordan almonds as well - although as part of my family's greek tradition.  And although I haven't written it yet, I'll be explaining the significance of that to my guests somehow too.  :)
