Question:

Everyone says this teacher is awful?

I am going into eighth grade, and everyone is saying that this teacher is awful. They tell me to switch out of her class, but I'm afraid that will mess up my schedule. I /love/ my current schedule and don't want to disturb it. I don't know what I should do. This teacher does sound a tad...strict, and is known to loose work. My bus is late everyday and I can not change that, and I am very scared that this teacher will reprimand me for being late even though I have no control over it.

Should I switch out? I have never met her personally, but do you think there is a chance that I will get through the school year with this teacher?

  1. i had the worst teacher in the school in 4th grade. it actually did not turn out that bad. if you tell a teacher you are late because of the bus, they have no reason to punish you since you were only riding, it isnt your fault. plus, if you like your schedule thats good and you should keep it. this mean teacher is one class. if the rest are good you'll be fine!

  2. Sounds like you should go talk to the teacher, herself. You have a good opening line, "my bus does not get to school until <time>, can I make that work with taking your class first period?" See if she can make that work, or if she yells at you before anything else.

If you don't like her reaction, maybe you need to switch.

  3. I think you should try to talk to your teacher ASAP and tell her about your bus problems, and why you might be late for most days. Teachers are just human in the end and I'm sure she'll understand.

You should never judge a subject or a class by its teacher - who knows, maybe you'll end up learning a lot in her lesson. I think you shouldn't switch straight away before even knowing what your teacher's like - see what she's like, and if you're really uncomfortable try to switch classes..but don't rush in your decision and don't try to switch straight away.

Good luck with your school year! :)

  4. Hello im sure if she is really that bad then she wouldnt be a teacher!

i think everyones just overreacting if they have had 1 bad experience with her!

    hope i helped

  5. i think you should have her the first week and get to know her,and if you dont like it,just switch.Im going into 8th grade too,and i got a nice teacher, but i dont know who my other teachers are.And i dont know my shedual and i start on Wed.

  6. Don't worry about your teacher. You will experience things like this all through your life, and there is no way to get around it sometimes--I say that you keep her.

If she is known to lose work, then make an extra copy of the work you do and then hand in one, asking her to sign the other. Then if she loses it, you can show her the other copy WITH her signature. She can't say no to that. If you can get your parents to write a note saying that you will be late for class frequently, that would be good. Once again, make an extra copy of the note.

Try to get on her good side. Sit up straight, answer questions that you know are right, talk back only when it's absolutely necessary (say, if she is being unfair and mean) and just be an overall good kid. But let me tell you, it could be a lot worse--I'm going into grade 8 this year and my teacher registered me in the wrong school!

    Hope I helped.

  7. i was in your shoes last year. i didn't have a choice but to stay with my teacher, though, because she was the only one in my building that taught geometry. she was a tough teacher, but in the end, i was proud of myself that i got an a in her class. i think that i have had a better opportunity than my friends with the "cool" and "nice" teachers. this teacher was strict, and now i feel more prepared for college and the real world. i think you should stick with your schedule since you like it. chances are you're going to be fine. also, you have no control over your bus, and teachers should know that. it's usually an excused late if your bus is late.

  8. Do what you feel is right.

Who knows, the teacher could be content with you if your not lazy or something.

  9. I am a college student and I had that exact same problem. My professor was known as really strict and mean. I decided to take her anyways and she was the best teacher I've ever had to this day. She really cared about her students and that's why she was strict, because she wanted you to learn. She took us to a lot of museums to help us gain knowledge of what we were learning. To this day, a lot of people still say she's strict and mean and they'll always drop her class. I have her this term and I am fine. So give it a try because a lot of people having different opinions of teachers. You can also try talking to her and letting her know how you feel because that will help a lot too. Have a good year!
