Everything going Detroit Tigers’ way in the playoffs – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers will be an extremely happy unit these days. They rode their horse, Justin Verlander, to the brink of the World Series finals on Tuesday evening. The 2011 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young winner looked to be in a confident
mood right from the start of the contest.
After Verlander tossed up eight shut-out innings, there was a rude interruption of a home-run. However, relief pitcher Phil Coke held his nerves under pressure to help the Tigers reach home safely.
Coke gave up two consecutive singles before striking-out Raul Ibanez to finish off the Yankees in Game 3 of American League Championship Series at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.
Delmon Young, who had a quiet regular season, is peaking just at the right time. He was the hero of Game 1 and he finished Game 3 on a high as well.
With their win, the Tigers also claimed a commanding 3-0 series lead and with one more victory, they will make it to the World Series finals for the first time since 2006.
"We have to outpitch them, we have to outhit them, we have to make it happen," manager Joe Girardi said.
"I think he kind of froze on it," Girardi said of Young’s hit. "It was hit farther than he thought."

"I hung both of them," Verlander said. "If I had executed either of them, it would have been a different result. But given the situation, he put up one of the best at-bats I've ever seen, especially with me on the mound."
Jim Leyland and his men won the American League Central Division title last season as well but they were unable to maintain their good work in ALCS against the Texas Rangers. However, things are going their way this year. Leading the ALCS 3-0, the Tigers
are certainly in the driving seat right now.
They have the Yankees on the run and Leyland is aware of that. The skipper has Max Scherzer lined up to start for the Tigers in Game 4. Tigers do not want the Yankees to bounce back into the series. Ideally, they will be looking to finish off the Yankees
in Game 4 to give themselves more time to prepare for World Series finals.
