  1. Something you may want to consider is incorporating flexability training into your exercise routine, either in place of or in addition to some of your lifting.

It is understood that increasing your flexability generally helps your golf game. Two areas that I've often heard cited as beneficial to golfers are balance and range of motion.

Check MensHealth.com or elsewhere online for simple exercises, talk to a trainer or fitness specialist, or look into joining a yoga class - just three ways to start adding flexability training to your routine.

    Best of luck!

  2. u can keep working out but make sure that u strech before and after so that you still stay flexible with bigger muscles so that u can still swing good

  3. Dude, Tiger Woods benches like 350.  He is an absolute monster.  Works out like a dog and is absolutely ripped.  My wife drools over him.

Working out does not effect your golf game.  What is effecting it is that by bulking up you are loosing flexability.  Stretch more and keep your flexability and your swing will be fine.

  4. Vegas Matt is right on the money with his answer.  I golf and lift weights fairly intensely.

I hit the weights pretty hard last night and will be golfing today.  I'm sure my scores will suffer a bit just from muscle fatigue & tightness.  I usually try to avoid a strenuous workout before golf, but my schedule wouldn't allow it this week.

Don't stop working out.  Just try to arrange your schedule where you golf before your workouts.

  5. All of the above answers are right about the benefits of working out and adding a flexibility program to your routine.

What nobody has mentioned is that the best results for golfers is to work on your golf specific muscles - the muscles you use specifically for your golf swing.

If you notice Tiger's physique, it is not bulging muscles but smaller yet well defined muscles. Try using a weighted golf club which will build your golf muscles, add flexibility, and generally improve your golf swing.

  6. Don't stop going to the gym, that's just silly. All the best players in the world spend a ton of time in the gym. There was a time when golfer avoided the gym because they thought it ruined their touch and feel, but those days are long gone.

As long as you're working out AFTER you play golf, you shouldn't have any problems. The only exception may be if you're on a intense, body building type workout where you're really destroying your muscles and it takes more than a day or two to recover. Try doing a lower weight/higher rep routine for awhile. I have a feeling you'll find it does a lot more good for your golf game than bad.

  7. get a bowflex that will help keep your strength up and keep in shape, thats what i do, i work out 4 to 5 days a week and i go golfing on sundays. i love the bowflex, i used to lift very heavy after awhile i didnt like the way i felt heavy on the upper body. dont get me wrong i loved the way my arms and chest looked but when your chest is out it way hard for me to swing, and now im back down to 165.

  8. Do not stop going to the gym, just stretch more and adjust your swing for your new power.
