Everything is bigger in Texas - even the football team
The NFL has recently released a breakdown of the largest teams in the NFL based on team-by-team player dimensions taken from the opening rosters of the 2010-2011 season. The Dallas Cowboys take first place.
The breakdown considers the following factors: average height, average weight, number of players who are 200 pounds or less, number of players who are under six feet tall, the number of players who are over 300 pounds, as well as the average age, average
number of years of NFL playing experience, and number of first-year players and number of players who are thirty years and older.
From analysing the data, the Dallas Cowboys are the second tallest, and the heaviest of the bunch. Only the Oakland Raiders are taller, and only by a fraction of an inch. But the Cowboys are a good seven pounds heavier, averaging 255.9 pounds. Runners up,
the Baltimore Ravens, are a full two pounds slighter in frame than the hefty Cowboys. The Cowboys also boast the highest number of players over 300 pounds, and were tied with the Cleveland Browns with the fewest players under 200 pounds. The Cowboys were also
amongst the teams with the fewest number of players under six feet tall. In fact, the Cowboys beat out the average in every single category in the breakdown, except for age and years of experience. Reading the numbers, it seems that the Cowboys are big and
tall, and apparently still have room to grow.
On the flip side of this coin, the Jacksonville Jaguars came up as the shortest team in the NFL, while the Tennessee Titans took the prize as the NFL's lightest team.
But apparently size doesn't matter, since the Cowboys have started the season 0-2.
