Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 - Cricket News Update
Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, defends the performance of his side after they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of England, at Lord’s on Monday, July 25, 2011.
Dhoni pointed towards certain factors which led to the visitors being thrashed. The Indian captain felt that luck was not on their side, and as a result, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.
Indians lost the services of their ace bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, on the opening day of the match, as the bowler picked up a hamstring injury which relinquished him from bowling in the rest of the match. Zaheer picked up two wickets from 13.3 overs that he bowled
and his absence was felt in remaining days.
Dhoni said, “Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. It was tough for batsmen to bat at different slots, it was tough for bowlers with only three left. We didn't have too many options... our resources were limited. If we had one extra bowler,
things could have been different.”
The 30-year-old cricketer rubbishes the claims that too much cricket led to Zaheer being injured. Dhoni concludes that a bowler doesn’t necessarily have to bowl to pull his hamstring, as it can occur even when he is fielding and running after a ball.
The World Cup winning captain begged to differ from many former cricketers’ comments, in which they criticized Indian batsmen for throwing away their wickets by playing rash shots.
He said, “You have your own game plan. When you play a shot, if it doesn't succeed, it might appear a rash stroke. But every batsman has his own game plan.”
Dhoni also announced that he is yet to ask http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 how he feels after missing out on his ton of tons at Lord’s. However, the Indian skipper declared that the Little Master must have felt dejected for not scoring runs.
Dhoni said, “I haven't asked him but he must have been disappointed. He always gets disappointed when he doesn't score.”
The Indian skipper praised the performance exhibited by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984. Dhoni feels that it was their innings that changed the outcome of the game and turned it in England’s favour.
The duo put on a stand of 162 runs for seventh wicket, which helped England reach 269 in the second innings.
