Question:

Everytime i run in p.e my legs hurt mostly my ankles and it doesnt go away for like a month?

so my ankles realy hurt in p.e all the time i run i can run realy fast when my ankles dont hurt but thats almost never lets say i run for a month ony one of those days my legs dont hurt and im not overweight im 11 and weigh 73 pounds

  1. if you're in shape and your ankles still hurt then i would suggest you ice them before you go to bed. i run cross-country and my ankles hurt really bad afterwards some of the days so i always make sure to do that. it really helps me!


  2. Hi Jon,

    I applaud you for running, as being active at your age is very important.  To many youngsters avoid exercise and sit for hours in front of TV.  What type of running are we talking about?  Playing with friends or running around the track (or XC) at school, if it is a running issue a few things can cause what sounds like Shin Splints.

    Shin Splints are not like Splinters so don’t get worried, it really is an issue with the muscle that runs up the front of your legs where your shins are.  Shin Splints are very common in runners especially if you are not used to running.  It is an overuse injury and generally will clear up with Regular exercise.  

    At your age I would limit my running to events to that are less then 2K.  At 11 your body is still developing and any more you risk a more permanent injury.  Things you can do to help, after you run, ice your shins for about 20 minutes.  

    You can also stretch that area, your gym teacher can help with that giving you some exercise to help stretch and strengthen that area.  Also if you are trying to run limit your running to 3 – 4 x per week, but never more then 2 days in a row.

    And in 8 or 9 years I hope to see you on the road doing your marathon

  3. What are you wearing on your feet...if you arent wearing good shoes, that could be it.  Most basketball, tennis and cross trainng shoes are insufficient
