Everytime it rains we get these weird,scary looking black flying insects.What are they?

These little pesky insects are hard to kill they look like flying crickets and when you step on them they crunch.I don't know but they are really scary looking to me and I cringe when I see them flying around my house.I don't know what they are and I don't know if they sting(That's why we stomp on them.) what are they?????

If you live in the tropics it is a type of termite.   They live underground and the rising water forces them out at certain times of the year.  If you do not kill them they will fly around for a while and then their wings drop off.  Then I guess they walk home as soon as it is dry enough to go back underground.

Look around for wings next time, if you find just wings without the insect attached you will know what they are.  They do not sting.
