I use Verizon for both internet and phone service. I believe that I have DSL. On the computer that I typed this I get my internet connection from a router. Is there any way that I can prevent loosing the internet connection when the phone is in use or rings?

  1. Sounds like dial-up to me.

  2. If it is a DSL, every phone needs to be connected to a DSL filter.

  3. Every telephone that connects directly to a telephone wall jack must have a DSL filter in series with the phone line.

But, no filters are used between phone line and the DSL Modem.

If you are using a wireless router between modem and PC, and if you are using cordless phones, then even if DSL filters are correctly installed at each phone jack, it is possible your cordless phone is interfering with your wireless router signals to your PC wireless adapter.  Only way to verify this is to test using with a corded phone only and disconnect all cordless phones (and power off the cordless phone base unit).

  4. Here is the problem. There is no one size fits all solution for this problem. At AT&T we have this problem with some of our DSL connections as well. Usually there is fault in the line and you are not provisioned right at the DSLAM. I would call 611 from your land phone and explain the issue and have them do a line test to see the quality of signal going to your DSL modem.

Also, check to see if you have your filter installed right. Between the two you will have your issue resolved.

I live in Verizon teritory and tried their DSL. I was having similar problems as well. i went to cable modem. I would recomend the same for you.

  5. this happened to my dad for about a year and this week it has been fixed, at long last, the frequency comming down your phone line for your broadband is too strong. you need to call your service provider and get them to adjust it. you will not get any slower speed, it has nothing to do with your speed. just the frequency. you wont even notice it has been done, apart from the fact you wont loose you connection anymore.. Wahooooo.

  6. Get Internet connection direct from the phone line to modem not from the router. Use filter for the home phones only. I hope this will solve your problem.
