Evesham 8640 Laptop Screen Failure

Question

Hello,On initial start up screen appears fine but then looks like has shut down.You can still see icons, folders, etc but very dark.Have plugged in external monitor and works fine.Backlight failure rather than whole screen??Can anyone help?Cheers,
