Evgenia Dimova ousts Romina Gabdullina in first round of Russia Open 2012 – Badminton News
Evgenia Dimova of Russia overwhelmed Romina Gabdullina in the Women’s Singles opening round of Russia Open Grand Prix Gold and surged into the second round on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.
Both compatriots remained head-to-head for 51 minutes and ended this race with final result of 21-15, 10-21 and 21-19.
Now the victorious shuttler will be up against Ozge Bayrak of Turkey to gain access to quarter-final round of the tournament.
Earlier, Evgenia Dimova locked the honour by grabbing opening and closing segments of the show while her opponent could only rise in second part of the battle.
In first set of the match, both shuttlers kept chasing each other until third quarter of the tussle but Evgenia finished this race by standing six steps ahead of her rival.
Though, she struggled in start and remained at lower end until 4-8 but she geared up herself and placed a decent margin of 11-10 before mid-game break.
After the interval, she magnified the impact by snatching four crucial points in a row and reached at a dominating position of 17-13.
This deadly blow proved consequential and Romina knelt down after reading 15-21 score on the board.
However, she did not remain grounded permanently and rose from the dust in the very next game. She saved the honour to some extent by claiming the second set with a distinguish lead of 11 points.
The first half heated up with Romina’s power packed campaign which took her to 8-4 in no time. She carried this momentum all the way to interval and stood tall with an 11-6 total.
Later part of the game saw her entering 16-10 figure by employing invincible tactics. This ten-point gap was never covered by the opposing shuttler and Romina won this set with a 21-10 margin.
The decider kept the spectators glued to their chair as it turned in to a nerve-racking contest after 1-1 match score.
Both compatriots put all they had to cement their spot in the pre quarter-finals of the home event but none of them could make difference until last moment. Finally, Evgenia Dimova ended this cliff-hanging contest with a favourable result of 21-19.
