Evgeniya Rodina, Anastasia Rodionova move into final qualifying round – Generali Ladies Linz 2011
Evgeniya Rodina of Russia secured a thumping 6-0, 6-2 victory over German tennis pro Anna Lena Groenefeld on Sunday to book her place in the final round of 2011 Generali ladies Linz qualification tournament here in Austria.
Unseeded at the Women’s Tennis Association tournament, Rodina looked in commanding form in a match that lasted for only 44 minutes on the hard courts of Linz. Dropping only a couple of games throughout the contest, she made her
rival run for her money. Ranked 103rd in the world, Rodina was delighted with her strong performance and she aimed to give similar results in the upcoming matches at the tournament as well.
Rodina served brilliantly and she hit 68 per cent first serves. Hitting serve aces at crucial stages of the match, she was able to get out of trouble whenever she needed to. Groenefeld had her chances but she was unable to handle
the pressure. Making six double faults in the match, she was always asking for trouble. Converting only 59 per cent of the points on her first serves, she served poorly to let her rival take control of the match.
The German tennis pro is quite experienced at the international level and she will be disappointed with the way she performed. She is having a disastrous time on the tour this season and she will have to learn from her mistakes
quickly to restore some of the lost pride.
Rodina had an ideal start to the match as she broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Holding on to her service games without any trouble what so ever, she established complete control over the contest. Not dropping
a single game, she bagged the opener within first half an hour to take 1-0 set score lead. Showing great temperament, Rodina continued her onslaught in the second set as well and she secured an important victory to move ahead at the WTA competition.
In another match Australian tennis pro Anastasia Rodionova eased past Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus 7-6 (2), 6-1 to advance into the final round of qualifying round.
Rodionova played a very controlled match as she hardly made any unforced errors. Although she had to fight hard to clinch the opening set in the tie-breaker, she dominated the challenger in almost every aspect of the game in second
set to close out the match in straight sets. Yakimova failed to handle the heat as she made costly double faults in the first set tie-breaker. She continued to struggle in second set as well and eventually wore out.
