Evgeny Donskoy crushes Evgeny Korolev to enter semis – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Top seeded local star, Evgeny Donskoy, devastated the Kazakhstani contender, Evgeny Korolev, with a breadstick at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Friday. He nudged up a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the eight seed to power into the semi-finals at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event held in Tyumen, Russia.
The Russian seed showed top notch performance to outclass Korolev in their second meeting. The contestants last battled each other at the IPP Open in Helsinki and after stealing this show, Donskoy maintained his winning record.
Donskoy high-spiritedly entered this indoor hard court event. He quickly bagged his entire serves with self-assurance. The Russian broke his rival’s serve twice and eventually sealed the opener with a breadstick. He was never challenged with any breakpoint
and cashed both break chances to inch towards his goal.
Ranked 81st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Donskoy maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He quickly plucked his entire serves without encountering any breakpoint. The Russian converted two out of five
break chances to his advantage, eventually clicking the set with a 6-2 score line.
On the whole, the 22-year-old fired nine aces and committed fewer unforced errors. He clobbered a lower first serve share of 62 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 70 per cent but impressively availed 21 out of 24 points on it. Donskoy sought seven break
opportunities and ended the match with 55 points.
Next in queue for Donskoy is fourth seeded Ivan Sergeyev who triumphed over his compatriot, Denys Molchanov, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The sixth seed, Igor Kunitsyn, also earned the fame earlier that day. He trashed his fellow citizen, Valery Rudnev, in straight sets to progress at this event.
The seeded Russian smoothly kept his entire serves with conviction and after cashing four out of seven break chances, he formulated a 6-1, 6-2 success in one hour and two minutes. Kunitsyn nudged up a lower first serve share of 59 per cent in contrast with
his opponent’s 67 per cent but magnificently clinched 22 out of 29 points on it.
