Evgeny Donskoy ousts Ivan Sergeyev to enter title-round – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Local rising star, Evgeny Donskoy, got the better of the fourth seed, Ivan Sergeyev, in straight sets at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Saturday. He nudged up a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory against the Ukrainian seed to power into the final showdown at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Tyumen, Russia.
Seeded top in this event, Donskoy warded off late resistance to outclass Donskoy in their first encounter. After earning the fame in one hour and 22 minutes, the Russian comfortably advanced into the final round at this event taking place from 19th
to 25th November.
Donskoy made a powerful entry at this indoor hard court event. After Sergeyev held his serve in the fifth game, the Russian reeled off four games in a row and clinched the set with a 6-3 score line. He was never threatened with any breakpoint and converted
two out of four break chances to his advantage.
Ranked 81st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Donskoy held his composure in the following set. He swiftly kept his entire serves without encountering any hindrance. The Russian failed to seek any break opportunity but cruised
to a 5-1 lead in the tie-breaker, eventually sealing the set with a 7-6(2) win.
On the whole, Donskoy smashed six aces and regardless of clobbering a lower first serve share of 54 per cent as compared to his rival’s 60 per cent, the Russian spectacularly clicked 27 out of 29 points on it. He ultimately finished the match with 74 points.
Next in queue for Donskoy is another Ukrainian seed, Illya Marchenko, who trashed the local challenger, Igor Kunitsyn, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed required a single break of serve to pull out the opener with a 6-3 score line. He blocked both breakpoints he faced and converted one out of three break chances to his advantage.
In the proceeding set, Marchenko maintained his intensity and eventually sealed the set by winning six games to three. He kept his entire serves without facing any hindrance and broke his rival’s serve twice to steal the show.
