Evgeny Donskoy trounces Vladimir Ivanov to enter round two – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Local rising star, Evgeny Donskoy, got the better of the Estonian challenger, Vladimir Ivanov, in straight sets at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Tuesday. He notched up a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the 25-year-old to cruise into the second round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event held in Tyumen, Russia.
Seeded top in this event, Donskoy showed flawless performance to dump Ivanov in their first encounter. After recording the victory in 48 minutes, the Russian comfortably advanced into the round of 16.
Donskoy enthusiastically entered this indoor hard court tournament taking place from 19th to 25th November. He drew the first blood in the fourth game and leaped to a 4-1 lead. The Russian held his composure and capitalised on another break chance in the last game, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to two. He was never challenged with any barrier and cashed both break chances to inch towards the victory.
Ranked 96th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Donskoy repeated his winning ways in the following set. He got the crucial break in the fourth game and jumped to a 4-1 lead once again. The Russian held his remaining serves with poise and availed another break chance in the end, subsequently clinching the set with a 6-2 score line. He again held his entire serves without facing any breakpoint and converted both break opportunities to his advantage.
On the whole, the 22-year-old ruled throughout the clash. He fired eight aces and took full advantage of five double faults his opponent spilled. Donskoy clobbered a better first serve share of 62 per cent in contrast with the Estonian’s 51 per cent and superbly marked 22 out of 23 points on it.
Next in queue for Donskoy is the Romanian contender, Petru-Alexandru Luncanu, who dumped Poland’s Andriej Kapas in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The second seed, Josselin Ouanna, will join Donskoy in the proceeding round. He battled past the local challenger, Alexander Lobkov, in a three-set thriller. The Frenchman hammered 10 aces and ended the deal in one hour and 42 minutes to progress.
