Evgeny Gradovich to fight Francisco Leal as Alejandro Lopez drops the engagement - Boxing News
The surging Russian pugilist Evgeny Gradovich, who was scheduled to take on Alejandro Lopez in a 10-round non-title bout, will now brawl the Italian proud Francisco Leal since according to recent tidings, Lopez has decided to drop the bout.
As per the details, the bout was all set to be televised on March 31, 2012 and was co-headlining the pay-per-view, but due to some undisclosed reasons, the Mexican NABA super bantamweight champion, Lopez decided to pull himself out of the engagement.
At the moment no comments have been put forth by Lopez or any of his representatives. Alejandro and Evgeny were bound to fight at Illusions Theater arena situated in San Antonio, Texas, United States but due to the current setback Top Rank, promoter and
organiser of the pay-per-view, had to come up with a replacement.
As announced by the organisers, Evgeny will now brawl Francisco in a 10-round non-title skirmish. Leal, 25, is a young Italian who though has not accomplished much in his young career yet has the ability to create an upset and win over hefty opponents. Leal
has been in a total 24 bouts and came out victorious in 16.
He has collected 10 of his wins by knockout and is the former number one contender of WBA super world and IBF super bantamweight titles. At the moment, Leal, also known as ‘Franky’, is on a two-bout win streak. Francisco clashed with Miguel Angel Gonzalez
Piedras for the vacant WBC Latino featherweight gold.
Unfortunately, Leal collected a draw decision in that bout but afterwards improved his pugilism and collected two continuous wins against Robert Marroquin and Leopoldo Gonzalez.
Evgeny is seriously outclassed by Leal’s experience. Gradovich has been in a total 12 bouts and is on an undefeated win streak. The Russian 25-year-old has collected six of his wins by knockout and will for the second time in his career, enter a 10-round
bout.
Evgeny is the number two featherweight in Russia but his resume is not intimidating at all. Moreover, the odds are against him when it comes to resilience and experience. Another interesting aspect that might create difficulty for the Russian lad is Leal’s
southpaw brawling style.
As per Top Rank’s announcement, the Saturday night show will go on normally and will be headlined by the light heavyweight bout between Kelly Pavlik and Aaron Jaco.
