Evgeny Korotyshkin overpowers Men’s 100m butterfly prelims – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia overpowered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m butterfly on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Russian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the initial round of the event and met expectations of his followers by entering the playoff as top fastest swimmer.
Korotyshkin faced tough competition from Jason Edward Dunford of Kenya throughout the race but succeeded in outperforming him over the finishing end for first position. He stayed just a touch ahead of his following swimmer and sprinted his way towards the
finishing wall by producing a time of 52.44 seconds.
His astonishing pace remained 0.15 seconds ahead of Dunford, who seized second best qualification spot of the race by reporting a time of 52.59 seconds.
Dunford was traced by Chad le Clos of South Africa, who was half body length behind and transpired on the finishing end as third best finisher by submitting a time of 52.94 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Thomas Shields of USA, who was only 0.07 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 53.01 seconds.
Shields was chased by Chun Nam Derick Ng of Hong Kong, who suffered a deficit of 3.10 seconds from his former finisher and clocked a time of 56.11 seconds for fifth place.
Afterwards, the audience witnessed immaculate efforts of Omar Pinzon of Colombia and Kenneth To of Australia, who initiated a neck-to-neck race for sixth best qualification spot.
Both swimmers tried hard to surpass each other over the finishing blockade but failed to do so and ended their swims in a joint finish for sixth place. They stayed 0.68 seconds slower from Ng and entered the playoff with a timing of 56.79 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the race was obtained by Obaid Al Jasmi of UAE, who stayed just a stroke behind and qualified for the final by posting a time of 57.05 seconds.
Furthermore, Korotyshkin was delighted with his fastest qualification effort and articulated that he would try to accomplish the same in final.
