Evgeny Korotyshkin secures Men’s 100m butterfly gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on day two of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Friday, November 23.
Korotyshkin spoiled the party of his opponents in the 100m discipline and paved his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal. The Russian swimmer remained prominently ahead of his opponents and tapped the wall for the title.
With his notable efforts in the butterfly discipline, Korotyshkin proved his mettle for the crown by clocking an effort of 49.98 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rafael Munoz Perez of Spain, who was 0.41 seconds behind and touched the wall for silver medal by posting a time of 50.39 seconds.
Munoz Perez was traced by Medhy Metella of France, who was slightly behind and stepped on the podium for third position by clocking a time of 50.66 seconds.
The third best finisher was chased by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who stayed 0.31 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end as fourth finest swimmer by producing a time of 50.97 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Romain Sassot of France and Yauhen Tsurkin of Bulgaria, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck race for fifth place.
Both swimmers continued their gruelling efforts in the final lap but failed to escape each other over the finishing end. They remained only 0.12 seconds behind Verlinden and ended their races with identical timings of 51.09 seconds for fifth place.
The duo was trailed by Peter Mankoc of Slovenia, who suffered a loss of 0.21 seconds from them and concluded his race in seventh place by clocking an effort of 51.30 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Bence Pulai of Hungary, who was 0.30 seconds slower from his ended eighth in the race by posting a time of 51.60 seconds.
In addition, Korotyshkin was extremely pleased with his fastest finish in the event and articulated that he would try to impress his supporters by capturing the title of same event at the World Short Course Championships.
